Operation Red Card

Back in March 2025, INTERPOL saw the arrest of 306 suspects and seized 1,842 devices as part of an international operation targeting cyber-attacks and cyber-enabled scams.

Operation Red Card aims to disrupt and dismantle cross-border criminal networks which have caused significant harm to individual and businesses. This operation, which took place between November 2024 and February 2025, was promoted by cases relating to more than 5,000 victims.

How can cybercrime impact my business?

Becoming a victim of cybercrime has many ramifications, including:

  • Negative emotional experience: feeling the symptoms of stress, anxiety and being violated.
  • Security fallout: you may be locked out of your social media, email or bank accounts. Passwords may be changed without your action and unexpected 2FA or login alerts may reach your devices.
  • Financial risk: there may be unfamiliar charges on your account, money may be transferred without consent and loans, or credit cards may be opened in your name.
  • Suspicious activity: your friends and colleagues may get messages from your accounts, and you may receive fake emails or texts asking for personal information.

Cybersecurity

To protect your personal and work devices, you can take the following actions:

  • Review cybersecurity policies to ensure they cover common threats like phishing, smishing, and social engineering. Consider investing in cyber security services and conduct the relevant cyber security audit for your business.
  • Implement regular staff training to help employees spot suspicious messages and avoid scams. This can be achieved with the right IT security consultant.
  • Use multi-factor authentication to reduce the risk of unauthorised access to systems and accounts. This is the best way to keep your devices alert for a managed detection and response if someone does try to breach your system.
  • Keep software and devices updated, as outdated systems are often easier to exploit.
  • Consider endpoint security tools that monitor activity across laptops, phones, and other devices.
  • Stay informed about global threats, since cybercrime operations often cross borders quickly. Use the relevant penetration testing services to ensure your company is operating in a safe fashion.
